Necklift Cosmetic Procedure
February 6, 2020

Do you have loose skin that is hanging beneath your jawline or chin, creating the illusion of a double chin, turkey neck, or making it look like you have no neck at all? If so, you may have tried firming creams and exercises to help tighten up the skin, but may have had little success. This is because this is one of the hardest areas to naturally remove excess skin and fat from. Fortunately, there are cosmetic procedures which can help you to tighten up the skin in that area or remove it altogether. The most popular procedure is a necklift. Here are some of the questions you may have about this facial cosmetic surgery along with the answers.

Can A Necklift Correct Excess Skin?

The term necklift is a bit deceiving. When a necklift is done, most of the skin that is removed is excess skin from the jawline region that is hanging down creating the illusion of excess skin in the neck region. However, some excess skin and fat can also be removed from the neck, jowls, and directly beneath the chin. This helps to reshape the chin, jaw, and neck region, giving you a more defined jawline and neck.

What Results Can You Expect From a Necklift?

A necklift is done to serve two different purposes. Excess skin can remain in the neck, jawline, and chin region for two different reasons. First is due to age. As you age, your skin naturally loses its elasticity and it can begin to sag. You notice this prominently in the jaw and chin region, as the sagging skin can hang off of the face. Secondly, those who were overweight can develop a second chin or excess fat and skin around the neck and jawline region. Losing weight can result in the leftover skin sagging once the fat is gone. The excess skin can cause someone to look older and/or heavier than they are. As such, you can expect your face and neck to look younger and thinner thanks to a necklift.

Do The Results From A NeckLift Last Forever?

It is important that you understand that the results of a necklift do not last forever. As you continue to age, your skin can continue to sag. Removing excess skin from the jawline, chin, and neck region only removes the excess or sagging skin that is currently present. If you lose weight in the future or if your skin loosens due to a loss of collagen or elasticity as you age, you could have sagging skin in the same region in the future.

Are There Any Alternatives?

There are treatments out there that are designed to tighten up facial skin and increase the amount of collagen in your skin, and thus increase the elasticity in your skin. However, many of these alternatives help those who have mildly saggy skin. They do not help those who have a large amount of excess skin in the region. A necklift is a great option for someone who may have a lot of skin that is hanging, or may have tried other methods that did not work.

How Do You Find Out if You Are a Candidate for a Necklift?

Not everyone is a good candidate for a necklift procedure. A necklift is a surgical procedure, so those who may not be healthy enough for anesthesia, have blood clotting disorders, or whose lives may be at risk due to an infection may not be candidates. Additionally, not every person can benefit from necklift surgery. A cosmetic surgeon would have to evaluate you and determine if you could see the results you desire based on the location of your excess skin, the amount of fat, and its location.
