Dr. Rick Schmid grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan where he attended Michigan State University and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology before achieving his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Originally, he had planned on becoming an orthodontist, but was intrigued by the excitement exuded by the surgical residents already enrolled in the anesthesia, oral and maxillofacial programs.

The intellectual challenge beckoned him to pursue the specialty where he quickly found passion, and his aptitude for the program enabled him to excel in the specialty. After practicing general dentistry for four years Dr. Schmid went on to earn certificates in oral and maxillofacial surgery at both the Detroit Macomb Hospital Association and the Children’s Hospital of Michigan programs.

Since 1983 Dr. Schmid has been practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery in Melbourne, Florida. He is one of only two surgeons in Brevard County that has earned Board Certification as a Diplomate of both the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. For 18 years he served as Chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Holmes Regional Medical Center, and has served as former president of the Brevard County Dental Society.

Dr. Rick Schmid

Being an expert in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery drives Dr. Schmid to be on the forefront of oral surgical technology. His experience in emergency room facial trauma and complex oral surgery has provided him with distinction in Brevard County as a highly sought-after surgeon. His goal is to treat patients who have very few remaining treatment options, and assure that their quality of life is restored.

Dr. Schmid and his wife Donna have raised five children and recently welcomed their fourth grandchild into the world. In their spare time they enjoy skiing, and spending vacation time together in Dr. Schmid’s home state of Michigan.
